COURSE LESSON TEACHER DESCRIPTION
Intermediate Guitar Theory Diatonic Harmony of the Natural Minor Scale Tom Dempsey In this lesson, we will use the same concept that we saw previously with the major scale, except here, of course, we are going to compose the diatonic harmony based on the notes of the natural minor scale. As it turns out, the actual chords will be the same as we saw in the major scale, except in a different order, because they are related to a different tonic.

Music is written in both major and minor keys, so its very important to understand the diatonic harmony in major as well as in minor. This lesson will help to round our that skill in your musicianship. There's a lot of great material in this lesson, so let's get started.
Intermediate Guitar Theory The Diminished 7th Chord Tom Dempsey In this next lesson, we're going to discuss the diminished 7th chord. As we've done with some of the previous lesson on 7th chords, I'll show you how the diminished 7th chord is formed, what it sounds like, and how to play it it on the guitar. This chord is found all throughout Western music and it's a really important one to get down. So let's start our study of the diminished 7th chords.
Intermediate Guitar Theory Diatonic 7th Chords in Major Keys Tom Dempsey Now that we are familiar with the construction of the basic 7th chords we will take a look at applying this knowledge towards forming our diatonic 7th chords in major keys. We will do this much the same way as we did earlier in the curriculum with the triads. Only now we are going to expand the harmony to 7th chords. Your knowledge of this material will take on new meaning in your understanding of chord progressions and harmony. A strong understanding of this material will have a huge impact on all aspects of your musicianship. This going to be an eye opening lesson.
Intermediate Guitar Theory Diatonic Seventh Chords of the Natural Minor Scale Tom Dempsey By now, we are establishing some clarity about the diatonic seventh chords found in major keys. In this lesson, we'll take the same principles we saw earlier and apply them to minor keys. We'll take the natural minor scale and discover the seventh chords that are generated diatonically from each degree of the scale. This is obviously important because the way the chords relate to the tonic in a minor key is different from that in a major key.

So, its important to get familiar with the diatonic harmony of the major scale. Let's go take a look at this harmony...
Intermediate Guitar Theory Seventh Chords and their Inversions Tom Dempsey By now, we are familiar with the root position voicings of all of the basic types of seventh chords. In this lesson, we'll explore some of the different ways that these chords can be voiced using inversions. The concept will be very similar to what we saw when we explored triad inversions, but there will undoubtedly be some new material for you to absorb here.

Knowing your inversions expands the depth of your harmonic knowledge significantly. It's this kind of depth that will widen the breadth of your musicianship. So, let's begin this study...
Intermediate Guitar Theory Seventh Chords and their Inversions II Tom Dempsey In this lesson, we'll continue our study of seventh chords and the corresponding inversions. Specifically, we'll look at minor seventh, dominant seventh and minor seventh flat five chords. As with the previous lesson, we'll look at different types of inversions, how they're notated, how they sound and how they can be played on the guitar. This will continue to open up new doors for you in your musicianship.

Understanding theory and the application of harmony in music is important. So, let's continue our study...
Intermediate Guitar Theory 7th Chords and Their Inversions Tom Dempsey In this lesson on 7th chord inversions, we'll take a look at the remaining two 7th chords in their respective inversions. We will continue to look at the construction of the chords in different inversions, how they're notated and how to play them on the guitar. But, in this lesson, we're going to see an interesting result when we start inverting one of these chords. I won't give it away here, but the inversion of one of these chords is sure to be an eye-opening experience.

So, let's continue our study...
